Three Ships Launches Limited Edition Single Malt Oloroso Cask Finish

In a display of double wood mastery, Three Ships Whisky has launched its latest limited edition: the Three Ships 8-Year-Old Single Malt Oloroso Cask Finish. The whisky is a heady bouquet of smoke and peat balanced by a nutty richness and the first 402 bottles of the latest Master’s Collection series will be available for sale online for one day only on 19 September 2018.

Master distiller Andy Watts gently laid 5-year-old peated single malt to rest into Oloroso sherry casks in May 2014 at The James Sedgwick Distillery. Andy visited the spirit at regular time intervals at his secret cellar devoted exclusively to limited release whiskies. Witnessing the unravelling of extraction from the wood over three years, Andy finally selected two casks this year which he deemed to offer the optimal flavour composition.

Although this is the youngest of our single malts released to date in the Master’s Collection, I think this expression mirrors our dedication in creating interesting styles and finishes.  I also wanted to create a single malt that best compliments our warm climate which accelerates maturation and softens our whiskies at a much younger age.”

The whisky is un-chillfiltered, natural colour and presented at a strength of 51.8%.

Oloroso meaning ‘scented’ in Spanish lives up to its name in releasing a multitude of flavours to the malt. The whisky’s colour is deep, toasted amber and on the nose reveals layers of dried fruit, nuts, rich chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, cinnamon and gentle smoke. Dark chocolate coats the mouth and blends seamlessly with upfront orange, figs, raisins, red berries and crunchy nuts. The finish is smooth, lingering with dark chocolate, cigar box and spice in the background.

The Three Ships 8-Year-Old Single Malt Oloroso Cask Finish is a treasure to enjoy or to keep and is the third release in the Master’s Collection series.

Consumers can purchase one of the first 402 bottles online for R749.95 on 19 September by visiting:

The live interactive site will open at 12.00 and live interviews with Andy Watts and glimpses into life at The James Sedgwick Distillery will be streamed during this time.
