The Search Is On For South Africa’s Star Stokvel Chefs

 

 

Hey guys!  You probably know someone who is a stokvel member or you are part of a stokvel, right?   White Star Maize Meal , Royco®  in partnership with Move! Magazine have an exciting opportunity for you to showcase your cooking talent in the ultimate Stokvel Cooking Challenge.  What better way to do it with your stokvel friends?

All stokvels are invited to enter by submitting in a recipe, some photographs and a motivation, from which the top stokvels in each participating region will be selected. Three stokvel groups in each region will compete head-to-head in the semi-final events, which will take place as follows:

 

Gauteng: 23 April 2016

KwaZulu-Natal: 30 April 2016

Pretoria: 7 May 2016

East London: 14 May 2016

 

The winning stokvel in each region will then be transported to Gauteng for the final on the 4th of June, 2016, where stokvel groups will compete to win their share of the R50 000 cash prize.

 

“We started the White Star Stokvel Cooking Challenge in 2014 and just love to see stokvel groups continue to come up with creative dishes using this South African staple food.”, said White Star Marketing Manager, Mokhele Makhothi.

 

Singer, actress and White Star celebrity chef, Lucia Mthiyane, and MasterChef SA 2014 runner-up, Siphokazi Mdlankomo, are the star judges of the competition. When asked what she’s expecting from the competing dishes, Lucia explained: “Even though maize meal is an everyday food for so many South Africans, there’s no reason why it should be boring. There are so many dishes you can create with maize meal if you use a quality product like White Star and their imagination. This competition challenges stokvel groups to think creatively about White Star.”

“No one brings the community together better than the stokvel moms and their meals, but they will always tell you that a meal is not complete if there is no flavour & gravy to accompany it!  Royco® guarantees delicious meals every time, so it was only befitting that we come to the party and give the stokvel members a competitive advantage,” said Royco® Senior Brand Manager, Khosi Snondo.

 

To enter, stokvels must send a picture of their members, a recipe using White Star and Royco®, a picture of their dish as well as a motivation regarding why their group deserves to be part of this exciting competition.
