With only two weeks to go, the countdown has begun for the 2016 Stellenbosch Wine Festival presented by Pick n Pay. The picturesque Coetzenburg Sports Grounds will once again play host to this much-anticipated event, which will take place from Friday, 5 February to Sunday, 7 February 2016.
This historical festival was the first of its kind in the country and continues to delight visitors with its authentic Stellenbosch lifestyle experience, superb wines, delicious food, fun outdoor activities and live music – all against the glorious natural backdrop of the Stellenbosch region.
Coinciding with the eagerly awaited annual harvest, the festival will showcase wines from 87 wineries, including smaller boutique cellars, which will make an exclusive appearance on Sunday, 7 February. From award-winning estates to hidden gems from the smaller cellars, there will be something on offer for every palate – whether you’re a connoisseur, a social wine enthusiast or even a complete novice, we guarantee something for everyone.
Take things to the next level with a visit to The Tasting Room where select winemakers and chefs will team up to present exquisite food-and-wine pairings. Each session accommodates 40 guests and lasts half an hour. Bookings can be made at the venue and cost R25 per person – smart shopper cardholders enter free of charge.
Visit the Flavours of Pick n Pay for mouth-watering snacks or the Gourmet Lane for signature dishes from popular local restaurants. From oysters and bubbly to biltong, your only problem will be deciding what to try first!
The weekend also features a fantastic line-up of entertainment, including chart-topper and soon-to-be-judge on The Voice South Africa, Karen Zoid, who will perform with the ever-popular Kurt Darren at the Friday sunset concert. All-girl band BlackByrd takes centre stage on Saturday, while Ard Matthews of Just Jinger fame will ease out the weekend on Sunday.
Last year, I attended the festival with a friend. It was our first time attending the event and we were blown away – she told her husband about it and he was so jealous that we didn’t’ invite him along. Don’t be left behind!
