Something New: MWEB’s Dinnercam

Something new, interesting and fun for my Cape Town peeps! …..

Ever notice how the dining culture is evolving as technology advances?  Nowadays, we take images of our food before we even sample it.  We then share the photos with our friends on social media chanels such facebook, twitter and instagram.

I remember not long ago, there was an article in the Daily Mail about people slamming Martha Stewart for posting “disgusting” food images on social media.  Her followers were really not amused with the pictures she posted.  I’m sure you’ve also come across some “not so appetizing pictures” on your timeline.  Well, in Martha’s defense,  taking food pictures at night can be tricky even with a descent camera and that’s the truth.

Last week, Andie and myself attended the launch of the MWEB #dinnercam at El Burro restaurant in Green Point.  We tried out the #dinnercam and our food pics were simply stunning!

The MWEB #dinnercam is the world’s first portable photo studio for restaurant meals. Tapping in to the trend of posting jealousy-inspiring food shots on Instagram, Twitter and other social networks, the unique device creates the perfect studio to take social media food shots to the next level.

MWEB has partnered with El Burro (arguably the best Mexican restaurant in Cape Town) to introduce the public to #dinnercam. It will be available on request to diners who will be able to connect via WiFi to post their photos. As an added bonus, all pictures tagged #mwebdinnercam are printed and delivered to the table to capture the beautiful food moment forever.

The MWEB #dinnercam is part of a project exploring how WiFi and the web are changing everyday life in public spaces and more specifically how MWEB Fon customers can enjoy Uncapped WiFi access in public spaces in SA to have more fun with the things they love doing in life.

I still need to go back for the Churros at El Burro!  Their aroma is enticing!  Hope to see you there!
