Linseeds, sometimes called flaxseeds are the brown tiny seeds we pass a million times at a grocery store because 1) we don’t know what they are and 2) we are not aware of their capabilities.
We tend to only buy some food items because a recipe calls for it then use them once and whatever is left ends up taking space in the cupboard. That’s what happened to a packet of Linseeds I bought last year in September. Come January 2017 I’m on google looking for interesting ways to detox without spending too much money. I came across a popup ad about a two-week detox plan with linseeds. Curiosity got the better of me and clicked and landed on a page with the detox plan.
My cousin had a good laugh when I mentioned I'm on a two week detox. Here's the deal, you take two tablespoons of linseeds, add them into a glass full of water and leave them to soak overnight. The mixture becomes a gel (see image) that you drink up in the morning including the seeds. Yup! 😣 This among other benefits detoxes the liver, clears up the skin and helps you lose weight. It's exactly what your body needs after #Ke Dezemba Boss festivities. More details will be on the blog soon.
It took a lot of discipline but I was on that plan for two weeks, 14 days to be exact. The goal was not to lose weight but I was concerned about the abuse my liver had to put up with during the December holidays. Besides, the body gives physical signs to alert us that it is time for a detox. Some of the signs include; insomnia, excessive sweating, acne/itchy skin, cravings, abdominal bloating etc. When you get signs that something is not alright, it is up to YOU to pay attention and do whatever necessary to rectify the situation before irreversible damage occurs.
Health benefits of linseeds / flaxseeds are enough to get one to make them a staple in the household Plus, there are different ways to add them to meals, for an example, add them to smoothies, yoghurt, salad, sprinkle on the dough when baking bread or add them to muffins.
The benefits of linseeds are remarkable, take a look at some of them;
- Weight Loss
- High in fiber
- High in Omega 3 – One of the benefits of Omega 3 essential fats is lowering of cholesterol.
- Lowers cholesterol
- Improves digestion
- Healthy hair and nails
- Cancer prevention
The Detox Plan
You pour two tablespoons of linseeds into water and let that soak overnight. In the morning you drink up that whole mixture. Do this for two weeks.
Here’s my observations while on the detox plan:
- I didn’t feel hungry and my cravings for junk were not there anymore
- My bowel movements were frequent – about 3 times per day (sorry for telling you this but I have to)
- My energy levels were high up there.
- I was thirsty all the time and because of this, I found myself drinking lots of water.
This post is not here to promote a detox plan, but the experience made consider having linseeds on my grocery list every month.
Now tell me, do you have linseeds in your kitchen cupboards? Would you consider buying them after learning about their benefits?
