Foodie Events: DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival 2014 (Give Away)

Last year’s inaugural Delicious festival was such a success that it attracted 20 000 visitors!   The family lifestyle event is now back with a delectable bang!

The DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival, presented in association with Castle Milk Stout, Whirlpool, Mitsubishi Motors and Kaya FM, will again lay on a lavish feast of entertainment and culinary fare, this time in the picturesque setting of the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens at Emmarentia Dam on 31 May 2014.

A couple of weeks ago DStv hosted a media launch party giving us a taste of what to expect at this years’s festival.  Local celebrity chefs such as Siba Mtongana, Jenny Morris and Benny Masekwameng, were present at the launch.  Five themed food stations were delectably adorned with mouthwatering delicacies.  Each station represented a mood varying from elegant, indulgent, fresh, exotic and local.   Live music kept everyone on their feet, singing along and dancing the night away.

“We understand that on some days you may feel like something rustic, fresh and simple and on others crave a cheeseburger and fries followed by a scoop of indulgent ice-cream.” Explains Colleen Goodman, Head of Retension for DStv.  “The festival will provide gourmet food shopping as well as Michelin dining, staying true to DStv’s promise of giving you so much more than you expect.” Goodman continued.

If the launch is anything to go by, the festival is set to be an astounding event.  Have a look at some of the tweets from the people that attended:

From a food perspective one can expect cooking demonstrations, pop-up restaurants and artisan food markets.  Festival goers can also look forward to the MasterChef South Africa Kitchen, in association with Woolworths.  Benny Masekwameng will be heading the 100-seater restaurant accompanied by past contestants including Season 2 winner, Kamini Pather.  Viewers as well as festival goers will get an opportunity to taste some the show’s favourite dishes from the three course meal on offer at a cost of R550 per person.

Rachel Khoo from the BBC Lifestyle series, Rachel Khoo Kitchen Notebook:  Cosmopolitan Cook will demonstrate her culinary excellence and dazzle festival goers with her creativity.  Khoo’s 100 seater restaurant will be offering starters, mains and dessert tasting plates from her forthcoming series.

The official beer partner, Castle Milk Stout, will offer festival-goers the opportunity to be hosted by Vicky Crease (Vicky Crease catering and events) who will guide them through a four course beer and food pairing experience.

Visitors will have a field day navigating the world of food at the various market stalls selecting goodies for a leisurely gourmet picnic or opting to dine at one of the pop-up restaurants.  There will also be ample time to relax to the sounds of leading local and international acts.  Children will be kept entertained in the kids’ area hosted by DStv, which will include attractions featuring Nickelodeon and Boomerang characters.
