Here’s an opportunity for all braai masters to showcase their skills, visit the USA and most of all represent Mzansi! Team ChesaNyama Braai-B-Que has four spaces up for grabs and it could be you.
Can you prepare a sauce from scratch? How well do you know your meat cuts? Team ChesaNyama will be headed to USA to compete in the exclusive World Food Championships in Las Vegas and the Jack Daniel’s World Barbeque in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The team will consist of a total of 8 South Africans. Braai Masters throughout the country need to cease this opportunity and enter by competing at the braai-offs and who knows maybe you’ll be filling up one of the four spaces! Interested parties are invited to enter. The National Braai Team braai-offs will take place at the following ChesaNyama stores:
- Free State (Bloemfontein, Ella Street): Saturday 10th August
- Gautent (Melrose, Corlett Drive): Saturday 17th August
- North West (Potchefstroom, Riverwalk Mall): Saturday 24th August
- Gauteng (Brakpan, Carnivall Mall): Saturday 31st
On these braai-offs entrants will be tested on their knowledge of their own choice of meat for the coals, preparation of sauce from scratch, and a final challenge of all preparing the same cut of meat with the sauce created in the second challenge.
Team Captains are Borries, who recently won the popular Bring&Braai competition on DStv’s kykNET and BraaiBoy, who entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2012 when he was awarded the world record for the longest continuous braai. “We’re going to compete against the Americans at their own game, and we relish the opportunity to show them what it is we do best in South Africa. We are known as a braaing nation, and we’re taking the challenge to them , in their own backyard” says BraaiBoy. He continues “We look forward to finding some superior braai specialists at the regional competitions to be part of the team.”
South Africa is a braai nation, anyone can braai as putting meat on the coal is part of our heritage but this is an opportunity for people that know a thing or two about food, meat, fire, coals etc.. If you are considering entering then you better brush up on your braai skills. I would suggest you get yourself a copy of the Ultimate Braai Master Cookbook and practice. Plus, do some research on American style barbeque.
The South African National Braai Team will be chosen and announced at the finals on Saturday 7th September 2013 at ChesaNyama Rosebank, Corner Tyrwhitt Ave & Keyes Street, with contestants having just 3 hours to impress the judges and secure their pace on the team. The team is scheduled to leave for Lynchburg on the 21st October.
Entries to the competition are available at ChesaNyama stores nationwide and online. For more information and to enter online:
