Taste the Passion with Nederburg and Robertsons Herbs & Spices at Soweto Wine Festival

Flee, a die-hard reader of this blog keeps saying all the interesting foodie events happen in Cape Town.  Well, here’s an interesting food and wine experience for Joburgers to delight in….

Nederburg is teaming up with Robertsons Herbs & Spices to share its passion for wine and food pairing at the Taste Theatre at the Tops at SPAR Soweto Wine & Lifestyle Festival from 4th to 6th September 2014.

Samuel Viljoen of Nederberg

Featuring Samuel Viljoen and Wellington Metshane of Nederburg, as well as seasoned celebrity chef Citrum Khumalo, the concept offers visitors an entertaining, informal and interactive taste-and discover encounter with wine and food flavours, textures and palate weight.

“It’s much more than a show-and-tell event,” explains Melissa Diedericks, brand manager for Nederburg.  “By tasting wine and food combinations for yourself as part of the experience, you get to find out first-hand, what works, what doesn’t and then explore why, with two leading experts in the field. “

“The 45 minute presentation has been designed to encourage questions from the audience, so there can be an easy exchange of ideas and opinions.  There are no rights and wrongs.  It’s about identifying wine and food compatibilities you like.  That’s what makes it fun and interesting.”

Chef Citrum Khumalo

“So often you’ll hear the rule that white wine is for fish or red wine for meat.  Our Taste Theatre will show that those rules don’t apply.  It’s about matching wine flavor with food flavor, not wine flavour with food category.  Seasoning plays a huge role in food flavour so that will obviously be a focus of the pairing experience alone with compatibility of wine and food palate weight and mouth-feel.”

Nederburg Winemaster’s Reserve Range

Important info to keep in mind:

  • 42 people can be accommodated in the theatre venue.
  • 3 presentations will be given every evening.
  • You don’t have to pay extra, attendance is included as part of the festival entry ticket price.
  • Seats are allocated on a first-come, first served basis.
  • Nederburg will be giving away wine prizes in a lucky draw at each of the presentations.

  • The Taste Theatre will be staged at the following times:

o   Thursday, September 4th – 18:30, 19:30 and 20:30

o   Friday, September 5th – 18:30, 19:30 and 20:30

o   Saturday, September 6th – 17:30, 18:30 and 19:30

Tickets to the Soweto Wine & Lifestyle Festival are R130 eachThree day tickets go for R310 each.
