Durbanville Hills Wines is taking visitors on an eight-week journey to discover and experience the food, culture and way of life from countries around the world.  The concept is inspired by cellar master Martin Moore who travels regularly hosting tastings, food and wine pairings abroad.  He says his love of food and cooking has enormously enriched his life and he returns from each country inspired to apply what he has learnt and experienced at his next dinner party or gourmet braai.

The themed evenings are led by Martin, red winemaker Wilhelm Coetzee or winemaker Gunther Ellerman, who also happen to be avid cooks.

I attended one of the sessions on the 30th of July.  The focus that evening was on Peruvian cuisine.   Guests were greeted with cocktails.   Eight dishes were served during the evening with each dish paired with Durbanville Hills wine.  The most interesting part is that everyone gets to sit around a long table and each dish is introduced with a brief story i.e. the originality of the dish, people that prepare it, how it is served etc.  In the meantime, feast your eyes on the Peruvian dishes as well as the Durbanville Hills wine served on the day…..

Sliced boiled potatoes covered in a spiced yellow cheese sauce served on lettuce and garnished with a hard boiled egg.

The food was amazing and to be honest my images are not doing it justice.  The wine went down very well and was perfectly paired with each dish.  It is very quite common for people to master dishes and food from one’s own culture, but it is quite an experience to explore food from other parts of the world.   It expands ones perception of the world.  Durbanville Hills wines are easy to drink and to top it off, the view from the winery is amazing, day or night.  These types of evenings are a great way to learn while out with a partner or friends and also interact with other locals.    Have a look at some of the dates below.

Cost: R280 per person.  This includes a welcome drink, dinner, wine tasting, coffee and a sweet treat.  Wine is also available to purchase during the evenings.
