So, September 12th happened to be national #BiltongDay……

The uniquely South African snack, that’s perfect for banting and a rugby essential, was celebrated for the first time throughout South Africa. Retail giant, Checkers, who is behind the declaration of the day encouraged South Africans to get their biltong on for “National Biltong Day” and by doing so make it official. Be it beef, kudu, springbok, or even chicken biltong,South Africans declared #BiltongDay to show their national pride!

Biltong is an integral part of our South African culture, so what better time to celebrate this unifying protein source than during Heritage Month, exactly one week before South Africa’s first Rugby World Cup game!

It’s great to see us South Africans embracing what is ours. In anycase we celebrate a lot of international days, it’s about time we start declaring our own “national food days”. In the next years to come we hope to see South Africans not only posting pictures of themselves eating or buying the biltong. Let us create recipes using biltong and share them on our social media platforms, but before that, we’ve got plenty of time to learn how to master the craft of making your own biltong and Suzelle DIY is here to help….

Now that Checkers has successfully declared declared September 12th as national #BiltongDay, we are looking forward to supporting you declare national #BoereworsDay!
